The North Barrington School EarthMender Essay Event

North Barrington School is the featured I Count for myEARTH school. Students submitted their essays about what they thought it meant to be an EarthMender and how they were going to make a difference. Here are just a few excerpts:

From our 3rd Grade Entries

We need to stop this horrible madness! Animals live here but we don’t need to pollute and hurt their natural environment! We need to not put icky things that animals drink, even the skinon fish or frogs will absorb the dirty water. We need to use the three R’s because they are very important! Recycle, Reduce and Reuse!

If we recycle we can help the earth be a beautiful place to live.
Brett Budzak

It’s good to be an EarthMender because you aren’t just saving yourself you’re saving the world, by just being inspired and doing it daily.
Laura Mena

I can try my best to teach my family and friends the importance of helping the earth. Hopefully if I teach them, they will teach others as well.
Matthew McVickers

I care for my earth. People can help the earth by reusing things. I can help the earth by encouraging my friends to bring reusable water bottle instead of a plastic bottle. Finally, I can remind them of the three R’s reuse, reduce and recycle. I count for my earth!!!!!!!!
Kevin Cooley – 4th Grade

I count for my earth. To encourage people to use the three R’s I will tell them that there will be no more room to live if we keep throwing stuff away. In becoming an EarthMender it shows I care for my Earth.
– Nathaniel Sendi

Being an EarthMender means that you have to do things not just say them. Doing things means trying to recycle not just say “I’m going to recycle” but do it.
Ella Featherstone

There are lots of things that we can do to save our earth, but remember to take this one step at a time.
Stephanie Chlystek

When you are doing the dishes don’t turn the water up all the way and when you are brushing your teeth don’t leave the water running. If you change one thing in your life it could make a huge difference!!!
Morgan McGregor

After the garbage truck comes on Tuesdays there is sometimes garbage on the ground and we pick it up.
Jimmy Day – 4th Grade

Instead of watching TV and wasting electricity, I can play outside more. I can bring in reusable things for my lunch to help the Earth instead of using plastic bags, water bottles and silverware.
Emily Straub

 From our 5th Grade Entries

You have to be responsible to throw away your recyclable things in a recycle bin at school and everywhere you go. Always be a responsible EarthMender.
Colin Thomson

When you ride the bus you will take up less fuel because the bus drives a lot of different people but, if your mom drives you to school all by yourself that takes up a lot more fuel than just taking the bus.
Lizzie Lekai

I think global warming is being caused by pollution.
Christopher Reagen

EarthMenders are not only supposed to help Mend the Earth but inspire other people to become one. I told my family to recycle so that there doesn’t have to be any more landfills..My parents didn’t listen at first but, when I caught them in the act of throwing a pretzel jar into the trash, I said wouldn’t this (be) a good jar to put raffle tickets in for the Smart Start Fundraiser.
Marie Hargan

Share with your friends and family to be an EarthMender, too. EarthMenders rock!
